There have been many fine documentaries about the making of films as they sprawl out of control. Hearts Of Darkness, Lost In La Mancha, American Movie.
To that hallowed list we now add Jan Jürgen’s Rain Of Madness, which follows director Damien Cockburn as he tries to make a Vietnam epic to rival that other one by that guy that also went a bit wrong.
It’s not easy when you’re working with a preening action star, a drug-crazed comedy icon and an award-winning thesp so committed to his role that he’s had himself surgically altered so he can play a black sergeant. But this is their story. This is the story of Tropic Thunder.
We’re in the presence of true filmmaking, people. Go pay your respects.
