Uma Thurman wants My Zinc Bed

David Hare adapting his own play

Whether he’s scribbling original movies, adapting his own work or someone else’s, playwright David Hare tends to write moody, emotional dramas such as The Hours and Plenty.

And his latest job – turning his play My Zinc Bed into a film – should be right up that thoughtful street. It also has another Hare hallmark – a top-notch cast.

Anthony Page will direct Uma Thurman, Jonathan Pryce and TF favourite Paddy Considine in the tale of a young idealist alcoholic, his moneybags boss and the wife with whom our hero has an affair. You just know that can’t end well.

And because HBO films is working with Auntie Beeb, we’ll get to see the movie on TV next year, while the Yanks will see it in cinemas.

Hint: The film starred Michael J Fox as accidental time traveller Marty McFly.
