Universal to open Nightmare Academy

Hollywood big hitters snap up the rights to first instalment of fantasy trilogy

Stephen Sommers, the CGI-happy helmer of The Mummy, is on board as a producer for Universal’s Nightmare Academy. The tale is based on the first novel from Dean Lorey’s fantasy trilogy that centres on a boy who discovers that nightmares open doors for weird and wonderful creatures from another world.

Lorey was a co-producer on TV show Arrested Development and has penned the script for Nightmare Academy himself.

Next on the slate for Sommers as a director is a re-hashing of When Worlds Collide.
