Despite this weekend seemingly being all about the Oscars, there was clearly always going to be room for a Hollywood action pic to win the weekend. Sony’s Vantage Point took the top prize easily, earning nearly double that of its nearest rival, Jumper. With Vantage point nabbing $24 million, Doug Liman’s latest had to settle for falling 54% to second place with $12.7 million. And snapping on its heels was The Spiderwick Chronicles, which showed some legs, dropping only 33% and managing $12.6 million in its own second weekend.
 
In fourth place was Step Up 2 The Streets, which earned $9.7 million in its second weekend out, and Fool’s Gold dropped one place down to fifth, adding $6.2 million to its haul of $52.4 million so far. At sixth, romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe continued to do middling business, taking in $5.1 million while Be Kind, Rewind – in a limited opening of just 80 screens – managed $4.1 million for seventh.

Tonight’s Best Original Screenplay winner Juno saw $4 million cross its palms, meaning that it has now earned more than $130 million. We’re sure that golden baldie will help more, even if the movie doesn’t need the boost. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins fell three places to ninth, with $3.9 million and, finally, at 10th, There Will Be Blood saw its own Oscar cred lift it two places with a $2.5 million weekend.
