After eons of rumours it seems as though the villains for Spider-Man 4 might just have surfaced - and they're definitely not what we were expecting.
According to sources close to the movie who spoke to Movieline, John Malkovich is in negotiations to star as Adrian Toomes, aka The Vulture.

In the comics, the winged terror is an elderly pest who's been menacing Spidey since 1963 (what do you mean, you've never heard of him?). He wears a special harness that gives him super-strength, with wings attached that he can flap and use like a normal bird.

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway is also said to be getting ready for some web action - but despite all the scuttlebutt flying around over whether there'll be a big-screen version of slinky cat burglar Black Cat in Spidey 4, she's looking more likely to play a brand-new character called The Vultress.

Where it gets confusing is that Black Cat's alter-ego is named Felicia Hardy, and it appears that The Vultress's other self is to be named Felicia Hardy, too. Nothing like mixing it up to create a whole new universe, eh?

Oh dear god, would the writers please stop trying to change 40 years of history from the Marvel Universe. The casting for the previous Spider-man has been suspect but this is a step to far.

Do they even realise that some die-hard fans were left mortified by the disjointed absurdity, villain overkill and plot re-write of Spider-Man 3? I remember saying, "At least it can't get any worse" - how wrong was I? What began as a mind-blowing franchise has just descended into utter farce.

The Vultress Oh dear god please tell me that's a joke ? Is Sam Raimi deliberately trying to anger the fans ?

I for one would love to see Malkovich as Vulture, but Anne Hathaway (Who I don't have that much respect for anyway) as Vultress? You'd think Raimi would've learned new characters in the Spiderman franchise are wrong after New Goblin, what the f**k were they!? thinking. What a delightfully dissapointing bit of news in my evening.

I smell a Batman and Robin style death for the Spiderman Franchise. Fingers crossed in about 8 years someone will pick it back up, dust it off and give it the reboot it deserves. Jesus, of all the characters and possible ways this could have gone....the vulture? The words 'missed' and 'opportunity' spring to mind. You remember XMEN 3 right? Think on Raimi, think on

Where has this "Vultress" name come from? I'm calling this bunkum until we see something official. Anne Hathaway as Black Cat and Malkovitch as the Vulture is good casting for two solid Spiderman characters. It sounds as if TF's source has some wires crossed. With Raimi taking flack for moving away from the comics in 3, why in God's name would he bugger about creating a useless new character with name of an existing one? it makes no sense, so I'm calling shennanigans.

"You'd think Raimi would've learned new characters in the Spiderman franchise are wrong after New Goblin, what the f**k were they!? thinking." Yeah, damn you Raimi for creating something that was created in 1974! Oh, wait, that doesn't make any sense, does it. Not that I'm saying Spidey 3 was any good, but if you're going to lay into something at least do it with factual accuracy.
