Wall-E collects a US box office victory

And Wanted also beats expectations…

Don’t look for Pixar’s winning streak at the box office to end any time soon – the animation behemoth has just snagged its ninth number one and joint third biggest opening thanks to Wall-E taking in an estimated $62.5 million.

But that wasn’t the only success story of the week: Wanted also did well, storming past expectations to shoot $51.1 million from cinemagoers this weekend. That meant a record-shattering weekend with two movies opening over $50 million.

The success of the two new blockbusters shoved everyone else down, with Get Smart dropping to third for $20 million and Kung Fu Panda sinking to fourth and making $11.7 million this weekend. The Incredible Hulk went down from second to fifth place, nabbing $9.2 million, while The Love Guru sank from fourth to sixth and took in $5.4 million.

Clinging on in the middle of the charts, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull made $5 million, while The Happening lost less than expected in eighth place with $3.8 million.

At the bottom of the charts sit Sex And The City with $3.7 million and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, which made $3.2 million.
