Warner Bros confirms Mortal Kombat reboot

Finish him!

In one of the more unlikely reboots of recent years, Warner Bros has confirmed that Mortal Kombat will be getting a makeover, with a new adaptation of the classic videogame set to go into development.

Warner executive Lance Sloan confirmed that a new Mortal Kombat film is in the pipeline, while also revealing the kind of budget the project’s director will be working with.

“We're preparing right now for the film with Kevin Tancharoen, [who] directed the digital series for us," said Sloan. "He's at the helm of the forty, fifty million dollar film."

No firm details have been confirmed as yet, but word is the new film will follow a supermarket employee who discovers he has bizarre, otherworldly powers that lead him towards a pivotal choice between good and evil. And who hasn’t been there?

So long as there are some ludicrously gory fatalities on display, we’ll probably find ourselves taking a look. All together now… “FINISH HIM!”

I was intigued up until that brief plot synopsis. The orignal film is actually not too bad to say it was an adaptation of a fighting game. What annoys me about adaptations though is that they never try to emulate the storyline of the game. They just take some characters and ideas and turn it into their own thing. MK at least has some basic story that they could develop into a decent franchise?

Kevin Tancharoen did really good job on MK: Legacy, and especially on that teaser clip with Jax, Sonya, Baraka, Cage, Reptile and Scorpion. If he sticks with the mood and ideas of series, it might be really refreshing movie to see. Raiden episode was really impressive.

I would love a new Mortal Kombat movie. NOT IF ITS DIRECTED BY THIS AMATUER Kevin!!! I hated the MK Legacy series. Such garbage. Not a TRUE MK telling. Everything on his new take of MK was just... off. Please tell me this some sick joke. Zack Snyder shouldve made the new MK. Thatd wouldve been badass. Im so disappointed.

I absolutely adored the Mortal Kombat: Legacy series, with the Raiden episode and the two-part Scorpion / Sub-Zero episodes being the stand-outs. Also, I can't have been the only one who got excited at the end of the Jax / Kano episodes when the glowing red eye was put in place.

Oh, and HeartlessXx, I really hope they keep Zach Snyder far away from this.

i think i saw the original half a dozen times at the theatres about a hundred years ago and i'd do it again if it was rebooted. The CGi is so much better now, as is fight choreography in general. I only ask they keep Orbital's Halcyon + On + On song at the end of the film.

Honestly, I'm not really down with this plot concept. Why not keeping it supernatural & Brutal like the game? Kevin T. can take his idea and turn it into a movie not based on the MK franchise.
