Francis Lawrence will helm the new take on the story

I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence has signed on to direct Warners’ new take on Samson, which re-imagines the Samson and Delilah story with a futuristic setting.

Variety reports that 8 Mile writer Scott Silver will pen the script, which takes the story of the biblical strongman betrayed by the woman he loves and gives it a sci-fi twist.

Warners is apparently after a high concept film in which the idea is more important than the star. So, looking to save money again, then.

Legend prequel

Lawrence will likely develop Samson even as he keeps working on a prequel to I Am Legend with Will Smith.
