Watch the Filth red-band trailer starring James McAvoy

Irvine Welsh's grim drama explodes onto screen

From The Last King of Scotland to Trance, it's clear that James McAvoy enjoys dabbling in the more morally dubious of cinematic tales.

But we have a feeling Filth is set to top the lot.

The first trailer from the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's modern classic novel is about as shocking, rude and red-band as teasers get, showing that Jon S. Baird has certainly nailed the tone of its inspiration.

McAvoy stars as Bruce Robertson, a corrupt, sociopathic, drug-addicted detective sergeant, and his twisted, misanthropic day-to-day escapades.

Gnomeo and Juliet, it is not.

Watch the trailer, and check out the poster below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Fairplay McAvoy looks like he is on fire in this. Did anyone else think he looked like Gerard Butler with that beard?

@Andy85 - At one point I thought he looked exactly like Fassy. Obviously hanging out together in X-world too much...
