Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley in Jack Kerouac adaptation

On The Road has been cruising through production for some time now, and finally a trailer has arrived, which you can watch online below.

The film is an adaptation of the cult beat novel by esteemed travel writer Jack Kerouac, which was written in 1951 and published later that decade.

The characters are interpreted as barely disguised versions of Kerouac and his buddies, with Sal Paradise (Sam Riley) and Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund) standing in for Kerouac and Neil Cassady.

Kristen Stewart joins the boys for the ride as Marylou, in another role that looks set to further prove that there's more to her than Bella Swann.

The supporting cast of characters is teeming with star names, including Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst and Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, who all get a small amount of screentime in the trailer.

This brief glimpse suggests that Walter Salles' (The Motorcycle Diaries) movie will have captured the free-wheeling spirit of the novel, and the open highways drenched in hazy sun demand to be gawped at.

On The Road opens in the UK on 21 September 2012.

I think indie movies are the refugee of mediocre actress like Kristen Stewart. I'm not saying she doesn't have acting shops and apparently a lot of movie critics and good directos seem fond of her acting but for me she acts the same in all her roles. However a lot of regular actressess tend to get good reviews and even oscar nods because their work on indie films. Maybe one day we will see a good performance from Kristen , she was o.k in Panic room but have been repeating the same facial expressions and speciall the voice tone in all of her movies.

kinda sick of people dissing on kristen because of twilight. I think she was amazing in Runaways and i hope this movie will prove to all the twi-haters that as tf have said there is more to her than bella swan. people hate twilight and decide they hate all the actors too which is idiotic. sorry guys but yea i said it. give the girl a chance. this film looks great. the books incredible

What does you being a man have to do with it? You liking a film isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of its quality. I don't mind Stewart, haven't seen runaways but thought she was decent in Adventureland. Dalidab if you could try to make any comment that doesn't involve cringeworthy detail about your sexual fantasies I'd really appreciate it.
