The Weinstein Company has grabbed the film rights to Gerald Clarke’s Judy Garland biography Get Happy.
Despite her seemingly cheery appearance on stage and screen, Garland’s life was a rollercoaster of addiction, self-esteem issues and manipulation by those around her.
And though she won just about every award in the entertainment arena (including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, Grammys and Tonys), Garland struggled with her looks and attempted suicide several times.
She also suffered through five marriages and financial trouble, and died, aged 47, in 1969.

Garland is best remembered for her appearances in the likes of The Wizard Of Oz and A Star Is Born, and for her amazing singing voice.
Clarke, meanwhile, is also responsible for the book that formed the basis for the Oscar-nominated Capote script, so chances are it’s a thorough read that should make for a solid film. But what will daughter Liza Minnelli think? Only time will tell…
