Will and Jaden Smith team up for M Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi

“It’s my dream project,” says director

Will Smith is joining forces with his actor son Jaden for M. Night Shyamalan’s untitled new sci-fi.

The two have starred together before in emotional drama The Pursuit Of Happyness, while 12-year-old Jaden went on to massive success last year with reboot The Karate Kid.

Evidently director Shyamalan – who’s taken a critical drubbing after The Last Airbender – is relieved/grateful that he can still land big stars despite releasing a string of movie duds.

“The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project,” the director says.

Though the film as yet remains untitled, a new press release has revealed the film’s general plot, which is set 1,000 years in the future, where a father and son’s space ship crashes on an abandoned, eerie Earth.

There, the young boy attempts to navigate the globe in order to save himself and his father.

Think this could be Shyamalan's salvation? Or have you lost all faith in the director? Speak to us below...

Surely M Night Shamyalan using the phrase 'my dream project' should be reason enough for anyone with a lick of sense to run far, far away? Come on Smiths, use some sense.

We can only hope that this means he's been booted from the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Better yet we can hope he's been banned and, much like Marvel Studios when they got the Hulk's movie rights back, we can just pretend Last Airbender never happened and start the whole thing over again in a few years and do it right. Evne if it hadn't been so appalingly written, trying to jam 20 x 21 minutes worth of story into 1 80 minute movie was a terrible idea. How doea this man keep getting A-List work, especially being allowed to write them.

I wish Will Smith would try and look for more grittier work, I'd like to see him re-team with Michael Mann.

Last Airbender might have been a c**p film but it was very profitable. And as long as the movies still make money (mostly from dvd/blu-rays sales by the look of it) people like Shyamalan will be given more projects.

woo hoo! anything with will smith in is always great, so this means good things for m. night at last. even though i didnt like the last airbender and the few before were a little slow ive still enjoyed them all. i think m. night will be able to redeam himself and make a fantastic movie with the smiths. i for one cant wait!

From what I've heard, Shyamalan's not writing this, only directing it. That gives me some hope that it won't be total c**p, since the guy's still a pretty decent director.
