Winona Ryder joins cast of Frankenweenie

Will lend voice to Burton stop-motion film

Tim Burton

Winona Ryder has jumped at the chance to work with director Tim Burton director again, 20 years after they first tangoed with Edward Scissorhands.

Along with other Burton regulars Martin Landau, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara, she has signed on to voice a character in Burton’s stop-motion 3D animated movie Frankenweenie.

Adapted from his 1984 short of the same name, the film follows a man who brings his dead dog back to life after it’s mowed down by a car.

Ryder has nabbed the role of Elsa, Landau will voice Mr Rzykruski, and talented voice actors Short and O’Hara will both provide the voices for five characters each.

The plot of this new version of Burton’s tale has yet to be revealed, though we have plenty of time to theorise – the film won’t be out until 9 March 2012, released by Disney Studios.
