Wolverine claws the US box office

X-Men Origins nabs $87 million

In what will be considered a strong opening, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has taken $87 million on its opening weekend.

That figure shot it straight to the top of the charts, with rom com Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past settling for second place with $15.3 million. Last week’s leader, Obsessed, sank to third place with a 57% drop in takings and $12.2 million.

In fourth place was 17 Again, which made $6.3 million and then Monsters Vs Aliens scored fifth – up one place – with $5.8 million.

The only other wide release was indie ‘toon adventure Battle For Terra, which debuted in 12th place with $1 million.
