Writers reveal Star Trek 2 details

It definitely won’t be a remake...

Adding to today’s sequel chatter, the writers of Star Trek 2 have revealed a few juicy tidbits about what to expect from their script.

Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci got their fanboy on with TrekMovie and discussed what they’re been working on for the sequel.

First of all, they want to make it clear that they have no interest in re-visiting or remaking any of the previous Trek films.

As for where the sequel picks up, that’s still up in the air.

“Should we pick them up immediately the next day or should it be later?” Orci said. “We are still discussing that.”

Meanwhile, Kurtzman talked about the possibilities of the sequel’s villain:

“I think our idea on this is that the first of any series is about them coming together or the formation. I couldn't really tell you what Jeff Bridges was doing in Iron Man, but it doesn't matter at all because it is all about Iron Man becoming Iron Man.

“Whereas I think sequels are very much about the villain. Because while [in the first one] the villain serves to bring the crew together, the second one I think has to be a true challenging of what that family is about.

“That is why Wrath of Khan was so amazing. Khan tested each one of them and ultimately asked for the [ultimate] sacrifice, and that is why that movie held up so well.”

Star Trek 2 will go on general release on 29 June, 2012.

Got any villains you think they'd be mad not to include? Give us a yell...

Since they have already altered the timline with time travel i think that maybe they could bring on the borg! I've always wondered how Kirk would handle the borg.

It would be great if the sequel just expanded on the original Khan story, "Space Seed" I'm just trying to think of someone who could step into Ricardo Montalban's fake pectorals now!

Right. So. In actual fact, the writers have absolutely nothing to say about the next Star Trek movie. How is this news? "Yeah, uh, we might do this, we might do that," "We're not really sure," "We're still discussing it." Lame.

"I couldn't really tell you what Jeff Bridges was doing in Iron Man, but it doesn't matter at all because it is all about Iron Man becoming Iron Man." Based on that he should know why Jeff Bridges was there. Yes, it was about Tony Stark becoming Iron Man but I believe that Stain represents unresolved paternal issues that Stark had after his father died. At the start of the film Stain calls Stark "my boy" or something similar repeatedly. The biggest "daddy damage" line comes when Stain tells Stark, "no more of this ready, fire, aim business." Stark coldly replies, "that's dad's line." Stain does serve a purpose in the formation of Stark's Iron Man persona since he helped him move past whatever damage Stark's father's death caused him. Even the last fight could be seen as a representation of father/son conflicts. The son trying to surpass the father and become his own man. Or his own Iron Man, depending on how you want to look at it.

So really the writers have revealed sweet F.A. What a rubbish headline, it's nearly as bad as that Xena: Warrior Princess pile of pap which was basically an afterthought for somebody who currently has no career because of their failing TV programme which only succeeded in exciting men with no lives because of the skimpy clothes she wore. Come on TF your just getting desperate now, reveal something actually worth while rather than these fake 'exciting' headlines!!

Thats fine if you don't want to revisit the older films. I completely understand from your point of view. Just keep in mind that this should be for the fans, not the writer. Although I admire your decision for moving foward, the villan from part 5 was horrible. The borg, simply a bore! The borg have been played out by the next generation. Please no! However, a prequil to Kahn or even a sequal to Kahn, would be the best bang for your buck. Remember, you can always move foward in part 3. But people trekies have been begging for more Kahn since Kahn left the screen! Seriously! If it were my game plan. I would bring in a young Kahn and have one huge updates special effects war, with an all-star cast like you already have! Then do whatever in part 3. But thats just me! Good luck. I look foward to whatever you do!
