Nobody Knows4

Nobody Knows

Inspired by real-life events, this Cannes Grand Prix winner from Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda concerns a quartet of pre-teenage siblings, none of whom have ever attended school, who are abandoned by their mother in a cramped Tokyo apartment. Eschewing melodrama, Nobody Knows patiently observes the efforts of these traumatised children to support one another in surviving without adult assistance. Calmly paced and beautifully shot over four seasons, it's also exceptionally acted by its young, non-professional cast.
