Only God Forgives reunites Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling, director and star of the award-winning Drive (2011), for a brutal crime thriller set in Thailand.
Gosling plays Julian, a respected and feared criminal who runs a Thai boxing club as a front for his family's drug smuggling operations. Also cast is Kristin Scott Thomas as Julian's mother, Jenna, a merciless mafia kingpin who forces her son to hunt and kill the Bangkok policeman responsible for the death of Julian's brother.
You can see a quick glimpse of the fierce action in the first teaser footage. Ryan Gosling reportedly undertook a three-hour Muay Thai training regime to prepare himself for the role, a routine that director Refn also took part in. We are expecting some brutal fighting having seen the first poster that shows Ryan Gosling looking fairly battered.
Following the critical success of Drive, we are insanely excited to see Refn and Gosling working together again. Read our Drive review to get an idea of what to expect from this unlikely pairing and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
Only God Forgives will open in 2013.
