If the first two instalments didn’t spook you, then Poltergeist III isn’t going to succeed where they failed. Carol-Anne (Heather O’Rourke), the kid the spirit world loves to hate, is trying to start a new life in Chicago. Without Steven Spielberg, who wrote and produced the original feature, the trilogy winds up woefully light on narrative and credible special effects. The only real chill is unintentionally provided by O’Rourke’s death during filming. This empty DVD is a sad epitaph to a short life.
