
There’s no avoiding it: Michael Katleman’s croc-shocker is... Croc-o-dire? Croc-o-dull? The incredible premise sees civil war in Burundi literally create a monster: a 25ft croc with a taste for human flesh, thanks to a diet of genocide victims tossed in the river. When a US news team investigates, croc and local warlord prove equally threatening. This mix of real-world monstrosities and monster flick lacks Cloverfield’s metaphorical smarts. Instead, the ungainly goulash of schlock and earnestness reduces human atrocities to just a scaly chomp-’em-up.
