A classic from the criminally underrated Nicholas Ray, Rebel Without A Cause - - the ultimate juvenile delinquent flick - - sired a host of imitations and turned James Dean, who died before the film opened, into a doomed icon of romantic youth. Jim Stark (Dean) comes from a `good' family but is always in trouble, whether getting into a knife fight or deadly car race. As a study of adolescent loneliness, youthful anti-materialism and the perpetual desire for unconditional love, Ray's Rebel is timeless.
