It’s easy to poke fun at religion. Too easy, maybe.
US stand-up comedian Bill Maher – half-Jewish, raised Catholic, now full-on sceptic – roams the world taking potshots at Christianity, Judaism and Islam, with the odd sideswipe at Scientology and Mormonism.
It’s funny and pertinent – but mocking the guy who plays Jesus in a crucifixion theme park is no great feat.
You yearn to see Maher take on an intelligent, articulate theologian.

It may be rather one sided, but Bill Mahers investigation into peoples religious beliefs is never less than interesting, frequently hilarious and occasionally really rather worrying. People with deeply held beliefs may find Maher's attitude rather insulting and blinkered, but for those of us with no religious convictions, this is fantastic stuff
