A Better Tomorrow 2012

2

The story of brothers who are enemies and also killers.

The man-weepie drama and jawdropping gun ballet of John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow created Asia’s “heroic bloodshed” cinema singlehandedly.

Woo has given his blessing to this remake about estranged siblings (Ju Jin-mo and Kim Kang-woo).

Riffing on the Korean action-movie themes of what brotherhood means in a divided nation, it’s actually A Worse Tomorrow: the plot’s forgettable, the action passable and the whole thing shameful.

Even the ultra-slight Making Of and interview extras are half-arsed.
