The race-to-the-rescue-beacon plot is a lean relief after the puffy The Last Airbender, and there’s no The Happening-style chit-chats with the (lushly rendered) foliage.
M. Night Shyamalan’s most satisfying (or least embarrassing) in a while, then, even if the sober tone that gave The Sixth Sense/Unbreakable/Signs gravity here threatens to turn the suspense into sniggers.
