Like BHCII, 1988’s Coming To America may have lacked the freshness of Trading Places– both directed by John Landis – but there’s still much to savour in this unexpectedly sweet (fairy)tale of an incognito African prince in New York.
Not least Murphy’s first attempt to slap on prosthetics to play multiple characters.
But when Murphy reunited with Landis for a third Foley outing in 1994, he was in a pre-Shrek slump.
Set in an amusement park, BHCIII features one great stunt but a dearth of laughs.
Let’s hope the upcoming CBS pilot for a BHC series, crafted by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, brings back the edge.
