Cave Of Forgotten Dreams

Werner Herzog takes us on a beguiling tour of cave paintings...

Cave of Forgotten Dreams review

Swashbuckling Teuton Werner Herzog raised eyebrows when it emerged that his new doc would be in 3D, but in theatres his exploration of recently-discovered cave paintings was one of the best stereoscopic flicks yet.

How does it fair at home, given few of us paupers have upgraded to a 3D telly?

In truth, if you’ve seen the incredible paintings in 3D, you do miss it – they were created to flatter the contours in the rock.

Still, Herzog’s gift for finding rare characters is as strong as ever, his philosophical musings are compellingly almost-barmy, and the millennia-old paintings have their own power no matter what the format.
