Child's Play

Chucky the killer doll's first outing

Released during the height of the ’80s pop-horror boom, this tawdry tale involves a sadistic serial killer (Brad Dourif) who voodoos his soul into a ‘Good Guy’ doll named Chucky to escape death.

Chucky is given to sensitive tween Andy (Alex Vincent) and soon gets to work hacking up Andy’s family, friends, and neighbours utilising whatever wee weapons he can get his tiny plastic fingers on.

Freshly remastered, Child’s Play works fine as goofy nostalgia but, unless you’re easily spooked by straw-haired puppets in overalls, the scares it once conjured are long gone.
