US interpretation makes for a moderately credible thriller...

Atom Egoyan emphasises the thriller side of 2003’s Nathalie in this Stateside re-do, swiftly outing the slinky escort Julianne Moore hires to entrap husband Liam Neeson as a bunny-boiling lesbian fresh out of Psycholand.

Kudos to Amanda Seyfried for making this B-movie creation seem moderately credible, putting her apparent naïveté to good use as she chips away at Moore’s fragile sense of self. Egoyan brings a cool detachment to the material, although you sense his unease as he tries to chart a course between arty and mainstream.
