Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind

George Clooney’s confident directorial debut

Back in the day, would Cary Grant have directed a thriller-comedy starring a cult hero – Dennis Hopper, say? Well, that’s what George Clooney did when Bryan Singer departed.

It’s a confident debut, handling the tonal shifts and oddities of Charlie Kaufman’s script, an adap of US TV star Chuck Barris’ memoir about his life as a CIA assassin. Clooney’s inexperience comes across in some heavy-handed moments, but Sam Rockwell has built a career on his winning performance.
