Despite pairing Vince Vaughn with a crude-sounding high concept – generous sperm-bank donor discovers that he has fathered more than 500 children – Delivery Man is sweeter and more sincere than you’d expect, even it does come across a little muddled.
While the premise is fertile ground for plenty of salty gags, it’s played relatively straight, with Vaughn reining it in while the supporting cast shines.
The extras hint at lots of improv, and there’s the sense that the material could have been edited into anything from a heartfelt drama to a raucous comedy, ending up with something in the middle.
