A brace of Brit-coms starring the English Marilyn, available on disc – and brushed-up Blu – for the first time. Lost gems? Not quite, but still cheaply cheerful. Bustling bigamy farce Is Your Honeymoon Really Necessary? sees Dors flaunting skin and sauce as the sexpot ex of a newlywed army airman. Sid James’ strained accent aside, director Maurice Elvey pulls off a daft imitation of US screwball.
By contrast, My Wife’s Lodger (also directed by Elvey) is unmistakeably British as hapless husband Dominic Roche finds himself out of favour post-war. Singing daughter Dors doesn’t do much – but as she might’ve put it, what a pair of lungs…
