Sid James’ strained accent aside, director Maurice Elvey pulls off a daft imitation of US screwball.

By contrast, My Wife’s Lodger (also directed by Elvey) is unmistakeably British as hapless husband Dominic Roche finds himself out of favour post-war. Singing daughter Dors doesn’t do much – but as she might’ve put it, what a pair of lungs…

Diana Dors is rightly a British acting legend! All her main movie roles were always entertaining and bursting with her often intelligent portrayals of the siren looking for real love! British TV should be ashamed for not devoting more regular airtime to her many, now classic cult films!
