Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark

A little girl's nightmare comes to reality.

Guillermo Del Toro is all over the horror genre like a rash. The latest beneficiary of his producer’s clout is director Troy Nixey, whose remake of the 1973 TV movie of the same name revisits GdT’s obsession: fairytale scares.

Here Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes are the adults as eight-year-old Bailee Madison starts seeing demons – mini CG marmosets hungry for kids’ teeth – in a creaky mansion.

Spooky and silly, it’s polished, but a far cry from the gothic beauty of Pan’s Labyrinth or the majestic, GdT-produced The Orphanage.
