Dr Seuss' The Lorax

3

Lacklustre Dr Seuss adaptation

A mega-moustached forest creature teaches humanity a vital lesson in this bright but uninspired adap of Dr Seuss’ enviro-friendly fable from the makers of Despicable Me.

The result is a mismatch of idea and execution; a worthy celebration of a natural world endangered by corporate capitalism that’s let down by a visualisation that feels sparsely populated and halfbaked, aesthetically.

There are some sharp gags and a pointedly modern sensibility – the things that powered Despicable Me – but Dr. Seuss’ worldview is too far-out for middle-of-the-road voice work and clean, unimaginative design.
