The lack of meaning in the title of this slick Dwayne Johnson revenger means it could equally be called Louder, Hungrier or even just More – a grunting stab at urgency and hyperbole.
Johnson is somewhere near his narrow-eyed best as an ex-con out for revenge after a mean 10-year stint, gunning down his marks with the ruthlessness of a Charles Bronson vigilante spree.
But the film piles up too many sub-plots and side-issues – Billy Bob Thornton’s drug-addled detective and Oliver Jackson-Cohen’s sleek hitman shadowing Johnson – leaving it struggling to keep up momentum.
An alternative ending ekes out the action but you can see why they binned it.
