A glossy French romantic caper

An enjoyably cynical Riviera caper, in which a professional couple-splitter (Romain Duris) is hired to prise Vanessa Paradis’ wary heiress away from her dull fiancé (Andrew Lincoln).

It’s advert-glossy and there’s a fun action element thanks to the hero’s increasingly elaborate scams.

Duris is endearingly sour and neurotic, while Paradis oozes sulky, sinuous charm.

The US remake will have its work cut out replicating the film’s very French sophistication, which here serves to ginger up the inevitable romantic clichés.
