The Beatles' second big-screen feature

Despite the boosted budget, theBeatles and Richard Lester’s second feature never scales the heights of A Hard Day’s Night: where their debut film’s grubby kitchen-sink stylings helped ground the goofball japery, Help!’s primary-coloured movie world makes it play like a stretched Monkees episode.

As dotty and insubstantial as any Ringo tune, its saving grace is that at least it isn’t Magical Mystery Tour, the mop-tops’ 1967 flop.

The songs are still cracking, though: you can’t argue with Ticket To Ride.
