Anthony Hopkins does Hitchcock in an uneven biopic

Unsure whether it’s a love st ory, a tell-all or a biopic, Sacha Gervasi’s (Anvil) fond, funny but uneven dramatisation of Hitchcock’s troubled Psycho shoot, grinds its gears often and loudly.

It’s rescued by Anthony Hopkins’ take on the peephole-perving Hitch and his on-screen chemistry with Helen Mirren, shrewd and implausibly sexy as wife Alma.

Also worth it for the moment when Hitch ‘conducts’ Psycho’s shower-scene soundtrack in a cinema foyer, slashing triumphantly at every screech of the violin.

Disc includes Hopkins-as-Hitch nagging you to turn off your mobile before the main feature.
