Finally, a film that truly warrants the term WTF.
Writer/director Leos Carax’s unchained one-off hitches a lift in the limo of Monsieur Oscar (Denis Lavant), a master of disguise hired by persons unseen to appear in increasingly weird assignments.
Full of bonkers flourishes (flower eating! Mo-cap sex!) and unlikely casting (Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue), it’s a wild, chauffeur-driven ride into cinema’s lunatic fringe.
Yet surrender to the surrealism and this extreme case of ‘life as performance’ is a celebration of cinema.
In an age of digital heroes, Lavant’s full-bodied versatility reminds that there’s nothing stranger or sadder than great acting.
