A grim, slow-burn twohander from Russian director Alexei Popogrebsky, Summer is set on a remote island in the Arctic where two men – fortysomething meteorologist Sergei (Sergei Puskepalis) and college graduate Pavel (Grigory Dobrygin) – are manning a polar station.
One day when Sergei’s off fishing, Pavel receives an urgent message for the older man but, scared of how he’ll react, delays passing it on.
And gradually the tension and suspicion mount…
Standout extra is an absorbing Q&A at the NFT with the director.
