The Stath of the nation

Known as Redemption in the States and Crazy Joe in France, this is a confused outing for Jason Statham, torn between winning him new fans and placating existing ones.

Sure, he deserves praise for trying to widen his range (playing an ex-soldier who falls in with Chinese mobsters lying low in London). But his muted pash for a novice nun (Agata Buzek) tips things into farce, as does his funding of her soup kitchen with his ill-gotten gains.

Steven Knight made his next film, Tom Hardy vehicle Locke, in eight days. This one just feels that long.
