Hustlers

2

Brendan Fraser's Elvis impression doesn't save it

Three tales of grindhouse revenge linked by a pawn store and spliced, Creepshow fashion, with comic-book panels, Hustlers serves up meth-head racists (including the late Paul Walker going full redneck), a serial rapist (Elijah Wood in Sin City/Maniac nutjob mode) and a crappy Elvis impersonator (Brendan Fraser, bland) who strikes a deal with the devil.

Matt Dillon, Vincent D’Onofrio and Thomas Jane round out a crack cast, but the script’s weak, the stories second hand. Director Wayne Kramer, who made one of Walker’s better vehicles, Running Scared, over-compensates with brash direction and catapulting camerawork.
