The King's Speech goes to America? A right royal bore

When the most dramatic scenes in a movie are about whether or not someone eats a hot dog, you know you’re in trouble.

Essentially it’s The King’s Speech goes to America as stuttering George VI (Samuel West) visits Franklin D. Roosevelt (Bill Murray) in upstate New York on a weekend he’s busy romancing his distant cousin Daisy (Laura Linney).

Daisy narrates the story but her voiceover feels intrusive, and while there are gentle chuckles to be had, the characters seem underdeveloped.

Director Roger Michell assembles an impressive cast but doesn’t give them much to do in a cosy drama that winds up being a right royal bore.
