I Love You Phillip Morris

3

Jim Carrey's curious, furious and rather dubious comedy...

From the writers of Bad Santa comes this sorta-based-on-a-true-story caper starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as lovers-on-the-scam. Curious, furious and rather dubious, Morris sees christian cop Steve (Carrey) bin his marriage to become a gay playboy in Miami, woo sweet-natured Phillip (McGregor) in a Texas clink and hop around America embezzling funds.

There’s hot-hearted chemistry between the leads, but you can’t help wishing the Coens were directing and Carrey would dial it down – his familiar gurning an obvious attempt to throw middle-America a bone. Ironic, given it wound up being unreleased Stateside… Basic extras.

I was really disapointed when watching the film as I had read great reviews when the film hit the cinemas. There were only about 15mins of comedy throughout and made texas exageratedly stupid. I think if maybe Steven Spielberg had directed this film it would have been a success. It was extremely exagerated.
