I'm So Excited

A rather stale comedy from Pedro Almodóvar

Pedro Almodóvar is never coy about cannibalising his old work, but this regression to his early comedic style contains little that’s fresh.

Failing to startle like The Skin I Live In, seduce like Volver or scandalise like Pepi, Luci, Bom, it settles for the minor mischief of passengers on a peril-stricken plane seeking relief – in sex, drugs, sing-alongs – from their panic. colours, cock puns and old casting pals (Cecilia Roth, Javier Cámara) provide echoes of prime Pedro but prove to be a mixed blessing, reminding us how much funnier his early ones were.
