In Fear

4

Just a gentle drive in the middle of the night...

While he’s now best known for directing Sherlock’s death-defying series three opener, Jeremy Lovering had already marked himself out as one to watch with this shrewd, semi-improvised chiller.

Getting hopelessly lost in a tangle of darkened country lanes will be a familiar scenario to many Brits, which is what makes In Fear’s anxiety-steeped premise so genuinely horrifying, as a young couple (Alice Englert and Iain De Caestecker) gradually lose their bearings en route to a festival.

Eschewing over-egged thrills in favour of a queasy sense of mounting panic, this is a sparse exercise in ratcheted tension.

Extras include a chunky 53-min Making Of.
