Julia's Eyes

Unconvincing horror despite input from a genre maestro

Julias Eyes review

“Blind woman finds invisible man” is how Spanish director Guillem Morales describes his part-creepy, part-cringeworthy horror.

Produced by Guillermo del Toro, it scares up a good deal of dread as astronomer Julia (Belén Rueda, The Orphanage) discovers she’s going blind and fears being stalked by a man hiding in the shadows of her failing vision.

The second half topples into Grand Guignol silliness, but Morales’ clever framing ensures we stay as blind and scared as his middle-aged heroine.

Extras comprise forgettable interviews and behind the scenes scraps.
