Nora Ephron’s culinary adventure about batty French cookbook author Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and the New Yorker who blogs her way through Child’s recipes (Amy Adams) is a tale of two courses. The first – Adams’ kitchen quest – is a half-risen soufflé that even die-hard foodies might find bland. But Streep’s goose-squawking impersonation of the real Child (spot-on) injects her ’60s-set Parisian portion with lots of tangy flavour.
