“He’s the coolest motherfucker,” drools Abel Ferrara as he watches Christopher Walken playing Frank White, a gangster just out of prison and taking over NYC to fund a kids’ hospital.
A neon-soaked daze of blood, breasts, coke and Catholicism, this is Abe-sploitation’s defining moment. But Walken rules the joint, lending Frank a vampiric allure with his insinuating physique, impassive stare and halting dialogue.
Shame there’s no Walken in the mostly old but strong extras of this solid upgrade, though honest Abe is a reliably unfettered presence.
