Leon The Pig Farmer

2

A Jewish boy discovers his real father is a pig farmer. What a squeal!

Twenty years on, it’s hard to see why this Britcom about a nice Jewish boy who discovers his biological dad breeds porkers in Yorkshire caught the fancy of so many punters.

Were chuckles in such short supply in the years between Withnail & I and Four Weddings And A Funeral that British audiences were happy for any yuks they could get?

True, Brian Glover’s ham-fisted appropriation of Yiddish slang still tickles the funny bone. Yet the fact that both he and lead actor Mark Frankel are now RIP makes this more a cue for rueful reflection than sidesplitting hilarity.
