Lockout

2

Basically Escape From New York in space

Poor Guy Pearce.

As if having to play a Mr Burns in Prometheus wasn’t enough for one year, he also had to star in Lockout, the story of a framed CIA agent, Snow, who must earn his freedom by rescuing the president’s daughter (Maggie Grace) from an orbit prison.

Sound familiar? Yes, it is basically Escape From New York in space.

It’s enjoyable enough, with Pearce well-suited to the role of wise-cracking dick, but too full of ham-fisted one-liners and derivative ideas to be anything more than a shallow forgery of far better sci-fi thrillers.

I was talking to my cousin after I left my office at Dish last week and he said I should check out Lock Out. Honestly I think the one-liners were the only redeeming quality of this movie, besides the action scenes, which were few and far between. The concept was a little used, but with the addition of the prison being in outer space I had hoped for far more. Pearce’s performance was OK, but on the whole, this movie was mediocre at best. I have unlimited movies through the mail with my Blockbuster at Home subscription and still feel a bit cheated.
