Deft, awards-laden drama...

Jessica Hausner’s deft, awards-laden drama watches with admirable delicacy and restraint the unfolding of a ‘miracle’ cure, which brings out unexpectedly mixed feelings in a pious group of Lourdes pilgrims.

It’s darkly comic, but Hausner keeps the mood ambiguous and slyly detached while eavesdropping on her characters to examine the role of ‘faith’ in healing.

Sylvie Testud (La Vie En Rose) is wonderful as Christine, the sceptical MS sufferer whose life is changed – her darting eyes and fleeting expressions convey every jumbled emotion that she’s cautiously guarding inside herself.
